Brian,

Glad it helped

My earlier Blacksmith Toplights have wire guides and they are "snicky" - foam doesn't work well when it's on show, but if it did....

Took the TC and 33 for a run round my mates layout yesterday now the 33 has sound in it. It did look good thundering through his station with a model of Newbury's footbridge on it now. Also took my Thumper for an outing.

All the gangways are now shorter including the end ones that unfortunatly do not have any spring in them now as they are flush up against the white metal door castings. No problem really as I doubt I will be coupling it up to another one any time soon. I have not fixed the end ones in yet as I might glue them in after painting hence the bluetac holding it in.

Slowly been adding the electrical conduit down the solebars for the saloon heaters on all 4 vehicles down both sides. Also made up the handbrake linkage on the DTSO's. Will be going to the Bluebell Railway Diesel Gala next weekend to get some interior pictures of the LT 4TC set that's there.

Bit slow updating this workbench thread :(

Whilst the TC is on the back burner for a little bit whilst waiting for a few parts I thought I would have a bash at converting a new Heljan class 37 body, that came with the pink pre-production model, into an ETH one as 37425. After a rumage through the spares boxes I found I had enough bits to nearly finish it!

So what have I used:-

Pete Harvey

New etched bufferbeam, ETH bracket, Square panel under drivers window, boiler roof blanks, window frames and D above couplings.

JLTRT

ETH (from class 33), airpipes, vacuum pipe from 37, MU jumpers, buffers and headlight.

DJH

Nose side grills with an etched surround, fire pulls, headcode etches from Deltic kit and their whitemetal marker lights.

The marker lights and headlights have been drilled out to take a Miniatronics grain of rice bulbs as I do like a bulbs light to replicate a bulb. The headcode etch had to have the sides narrowed a little bit to get an even surround. Bufferbeams were cut away and plastic strip added for the beading. Boiler access steps and filler are filled as is the handrail holes in the ends. The chassis is from the 37 I converted a while back to 37250 which has a set of Pete Harvey's etched cab footsteps on already. 37425 had a set of cast bogies on it so I want to have a go at replicating these by taking the beading off the sides of some spare 37 sideframes. Unfortunatly I only have one set of snow ploughs and one spare 37 vacuum pipe at the moment, some more are on order from JLTRT so the other bufferbeam can't get any further until the postie does his bit. I have ordered some Severn Mill nameplates for it but they will be a while coming as he is moving house soon. I will be putting a Howes sound chip in this later.

Hi Brian,

That does look really good. I particularly like those headcode front plates!!

Just out of interest, how long did it take you to put all that together?

Cheers

Thanks Lee, forgot to say it will be in L/L west higland style.

It's taken just over a week. The longest bit was filling and rubbing down the side steps and nose holes. It was a messy conversion, what with the filler rubbing down and then plastic dust everywhere filing up the nose grill holes. Just noticed I forgot to stick the horns on for it's piccies.

One job to be getting on with next is drilling holes and adding the door handrails.

Well you've done a great job on the conversion. I had assumed (no idea why) that it was to be L/L... Eastfield based.

Don't forget the windy-wipers Brian :p

Those that saw me at Telford saw I was building a pre-production JLTRT Warwell kit. Well I have finished building it with all the bits I had plus a few others to get it this far. It is still short of some tie down lugs that go under the solebars at the ends and these will be sent on soon. I have added Slaters lampirons and a modified vac pipe. I also added the small etched rings on the top to tie the load down to and an etched wagon label clip. The bogies are straight forward to do and if you are sparing with the superglue they do work, and mine do!!!!! As it comes it has a hollow deck but I will add some wood strip to it after painting to cover the hole.warwell1.jpg warwell2.jpg warwell3.jpg warwell4.jpg warwell5.jpg warwell6.jpg

I have painted one of the TC coaches and can now get the other coaches painted, so that's going to take a while.

In the mean time I did get round to painting the new Heljan 37 ETH re-furbishment. At the moment it's still a bit glossy as I am waiting for some number transfers from Rail-tec and once they are on I will tone it down and weather it.
