I don't think I've ever seen a lined-Green Ivatt before:eek:.... not that I've consciously looked, of course, but I just sort of assumed they were all black... I suppose the fact that the majority of photos from the Era were black'n'white wouldn't help either:rolleyes:
Certainly makes it stand out as a model!

Hi

Thanks for the kind comments. In fact, I only regard the track weathering as started, not finished. We mixed variable batches of Railmatch weathered black and frame dirt and liberally applied it all over, as an emergency fix prior to the Manchester exhibition. The intention is to go over it all again with a wide variety of colours, both applied wet and dry brushed, more textures in the minerals yard, tufts of weeds, browny/rust on the rail sides, oiled fishplates - a whole range of techniques.

We did pay a lot of attention to the ballasting which still needs a little more work. In fact, I'm still working on bits of track after 3 years!

I'm also posting a 100% grab of one of the earlier pictures.

There are 2 baseboard joins in this picture. I think you can work out where the one is, but the second is very difficult, if not impossible to spot!

Happy hunting!

Not sure.... two tracks across one join between baseboards.... or that there are two joints between three baseboards.

Assuming the first, then:-
(a) under the jocko, between leading and driving axles;
(b) three timbers to the left of the switch toe.

What is the prize?

Blimey! I don't even remember that photo! There's keen.

Graham - it's 2 joins across 3 boards. You have spotted the one that cuts across the running lines. The one that's near impossible to detect runs pretty much at right angles to that, and the signal box straddles it. It is visible in the photo as a change in tone of the ground colour between the Ivatt smokebox and the Jinty's far side buffer. Pretty well disguised though!

Prize? An invite to play trains!

Cheers

My favourate picture is the one of the 3f from the bunker side, not just because of the loco but other things. The early lower quadrant in the foreground and the later upper quadrant beyond holding the tank, also the texture and detail on the stone retaining wall. Fantastic job, loads of detail and a very high bench mark for us all:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::thumbs::thumbs:

Is the Ivatt as it comes out of the box Richard, or has a lot of work been done?.............either way it's a fine model  The smoke box number doesn't do justice to the model though IMO ( if you don't mind a bodger like me saying so):)

It does stand out, doesn't it. Roger provided the following information:

Have just seen the latest additions on your Heyside thread. You might like to let Jordan know that the majority of the Ivatt 2’s built at Swindon (46502-46527) and allocated to the WR were repainted green from 1956 onwards. All the other builds were lined black although a few ended up unlined.

I think I nearly escaped Area 51 for a moment, with a WR loco on Heyside (legitimately in this case).

my regards to Roger, he has done his usual great job on the Ivatt.

Mike, Phill. At the moment, it is exactly as it came out of the box, which is a tribute to San Cheng/Bachmann. I think it is the best of the locos produced to date, though the Duchess looks good too. Roger acquired it second hand, and I suspect the paint job is a Rathbone one. He has in mind to do a few things to it, and it should be chipped and tweaked by the next running session.

Phill. You're right about the smoke box number. I only noticed it myself when I was looking at the photos. It does detract from what is a very appealing model.

Who's been having a play with his new camera then!

Corking photo Tony. Given all the obstacles in the way, the depth of field is very good.

The pw looks good in this shot, but we really need something to obscure the wall, door etc. Lack of point rodding shows up too in this view. Thanks for posting.

Cheers

I still cannot see the join behind the signal box....

This is one of the finest layout shots that I have seen in many years. I bet that the calendar in the box has today as December 25th 1960ish.

Well done,Graham
