Nice videos Richard, and the 3rd one gives me the siting of the lattice bridge, which for some reason I coudn't remember, despite seeing it in the flesh. Many thanks, and Heyside continues to look more and more wonderful!!!

Very best wishes

Hi Mike

Thanks. I didn't respond directly, sorry, but you managed to work it out. The location is also shown on the track plan that was posted a little while back.

Brian's year long stint on the trackwork is really paying dividends too.

Regards

Richard

I'm looking forward to seeing this in-the-flesh. Really like the DMU and inspection saloon. Is the DMU a 105? It looks so different in green!

Thanks Steve. The DMU is indeed a 105. It is one of my favourite 'trains' on the layout.

Hi

Well, I've been able to do very little modelling in January with my professional workload, so nothing in the way of Heyside or workbench updates. I'm looking forward to getting going again, as I tend to get irritable if I can't play trains.

We did manage a Wednesday work day this week, and Allan brought along the second iteration of the factory:

The factory has a more Northlight feel about it, and looks better for the rework. Graham Beare has kindly provided some excellent photographs of a factory in Stourport at my request, and Allan is using them to detail the roof, make the vents and to add a few other details. Thank you Graham:thumbs:

I gave Allan the photos on a disc, and had a very amusing email from him at 5.30am the following morning. He'd got up at 4.30 to print off the photographs, so keen was he to get on with the factory. That's what I like to see from the team - dedication to the cause. :) That's an extra slice of cake for Allan.

Cheers

"There is nothing like a Northlight"

I'm kinda thinking South Pacific here:rolleyes:

Seriously it looks really good and is going to make that corner really contribute to the whole scene. Tricky chaps corners....

Oh and BTW my most excellent accountant rose to my (ahem) "challenge" and my tax return is in and tax paid. I feel much better for this!!

only if you're in one - and you seem to have gotten out of yours with the taxman:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: - however, Richard is still in his - the exhibition looms ahead :eek::eek: best to leave him be to get on with it methinks;)

best of luck Richard

Thank you Mike.

I am sure that much midnight oil will be burned, but I have a really good team. They all know what they are doing and can be left to get on with it. They all take their homework seriously too! Tim has been working on 2 yard cranes which should appear tomorrow, so things will start to move very quickly now.

On a sad note, I shall have to collect the bank shortly so that can be finished off.

Hi

One of the must dos for the show is the signal gantry. I get nagged mercilessly by the rest of the gang to get it complete, so that is where my attention is at the moment.

First off is some pictures of where I am at the moment:

Modelled on the L&Y gantry outside Manchester.

This shot shows the cast balance weights with the right hand distant slotted:

while this one shows the details of the gantry framing:

There is a further arm - a calling on arm which needs to be added to one of the dolls, making 9 working arms. All the wires are above the decking, and go to angle on the one end, which is why Tony is having to think hard about the servo mounting.

It's also a problem for me in that I am going to have restricted space, and in addition, the change of direction below the operating lever is by pulley wheels, and I wished to replicate that as far as possible.

That's not possible of course using wire, so I adapted some C&L pulley wheels, so that they worked like cranks, but looked like wheels....mostly. I don't know whether it will work, but there is only one way to find out.

OK, they need a clean up, but you get the idea. All the wires run to one end, and then down via cranks. I soldered 9 cranks to some tube to minimise the wobble when on the axle, and I am about to separate them with my piercing saw.

So that's where I am at the moment. Will it work? Watch this space.
