a great purchase Richard, well done. The weathering should be done by not taking the lid off of the pot or switching the compressor on.

I have every confidence!
Looking forward to seeing them all work at Aylesbury!

Hi Jon,

Thank you for the vote of confidence.

It's nice to see you over here - you've discovered where we're hiding!

Actually, I do think they are going to work. I did a proof of concept last night, and got full movement in the arm I linked up. It was a bit 2 steps forward and one back - the slotted levers interfered with the pulleys when off so I had to move the levers and bracket up the doll. I will post some pics on Thursday - today is Wednesday.........and that means it's a Heyside work day:)

Hi

Jon, you were asking about signals elsewhere. If I've identified the correct signal, it's this one:

P1010200b.jpg

P1010194b.jpg

It started out life as a tall etch for an ECML signal when Clive was that way inclined. When we were browsing through Jeffrey Wells books, we came across the lattice signal, and Clive felt the etch could be adapted. He was as good as his word.

But what is that stuck in the loop on the other line?????

Some very funny things appear on running nights.

We're starting to add the small details that bring the layout to life. Here a Skytrex yard crane has been added to the warehouse - it adds interest and breaks up the building. One of three built by Tim....well, he's built two, the other will be purchased at Kettering.

Hi Richard,

nothing strange about the correct shade of green running on Heyside, nice to see Caroline checking things out as well.

A very nice looking signal is that. Is the post tapered or is it just the picture?
I've been pestering Colin at A.G. to upscale his LMS signal bits to 7mm scale as the LMS 12" and 14" paralell lattice posts are in that range along with a lovely cantilever lattice bracket too. The only one he's done so far is the Bath Jc gantry/bracket thingy. Not really the most versatile structure but it scaled up nicely and was enjoyable to assemble. If the others in the range come out like that I'll be a happy bunny!
That L&Y shunt signal's a sweetie too!

Hi

Okay, the following is not really Heyside territory, but while we had Caroline with us, and she was on my WC......hang on, must think about how I word that:) .....I took a few photos.

For those of you who recall my design challenge, one of the suggestions was a cramped London BR(SR) terminus, so you never know, this might be a legitimate train for Heyside Central.:)

Cheers

That bullied looks superb what make is it

Hi John

Thanks. The Bulleid is in fact the original Jim Harris/Oakville model. It was the kit that convinced me I could do O gauge - as in it's so bad, if I could build that, I could build anything. It was blow-torched apart twice (and in the process I discovered annealing:)), but I have a soft spot for it because of the personal history for me. It has a big Crailcrest to provide the grunt and will pull anything, and even now is still a pretty decent model.

I want to build the Martin Finney one with the high-sided tender, but I am yet to see one (as a kit) on the second-hand market.

Hi Richard,

I was just looking at the photos above and it struck me just how well the trackwork looks now, Clive has really brought it to life although it must of been a tedious job at times.

Thanks Martyn

It's Brian's baby, and he has worked very assiduously on it. Still more to do, but it looks very presentable.

I've started working on the point rodding again - much head-scratching.

Hi Richard,

Point rodding that is quite a subject in itself, are you using the C&L products or are the regional differences so great that some parts need to be scratch built ?

ATB,

Martyn.

Hi

Back on the gantry. Well, after a couple of false starts with the pulley/crank concept, and an initial proof of concept that showed I needed a little more clearance than I first thought, I have got the first 2 dolls and 4 arms working smoothly. None interfere with any other as they are pulled off, and they all fall back to on under their own weight.

First of all - and just to put Jordan out of his misery - the gantry as it is at the moment, with the calling-on arm added to the left-hand doll. The full 9-arm complement:)

P1010222a.jpg

A close up of the pulley wheel/cranks. I think this works well as the eye is fooled into seeing it initially as a wheel. There is just enough movement to pull the arm fully off. I had to raise all the levers/counterweights to provide room, especially on the slotted levers. It's all very tight...

P1010224a.jpg

And finally, the cranks where the movement is taken over the end of the platform. there's no way I could get everything in a straight line, so this is one of the compromises I have to accept as a modeller. I have another 3 runs to connect on the near side, while the far right hand doll is connected the far side.

P1010226a.jpg

It's really fiddly - if not exasperating - connecting all the runs, but it has its own reward when everything works.

Cheers

Richard
