It's really fiddly - if not exasperating - connecting all the runs, but it has its own reward when everything works.

Hi Richard,

The idea of a single track branchline becomes more appealing by the minute ;):D.

Superb workmanship, it's features like the gantry that will help bring Heyside to life.

Martyn.

Hi Richard,

Point rodding that is quite a subject in itself, are you using the C&L products or are the regional differences so great that some parts need to be scratch built ?

ATB,

Martyn.

Hi Martyn

I'm using C&L and Wizard components. None are quite accurate for my needs, but they are near enough, and I'm blowed if I'm going to scratchbuild the whole lot. I'm aiming for a pretty good representation, and I'm convinced that what I produce will look OK to most, and for sure will be better than leaving it off. The big difference is the use of inverted 'U' channel, not rod, which makes the stools difficult to adapt.

Hi Richard,

will it need dismantling to be painted - or do you have a cunning plan?

cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

Real problem on this one. There would be so much to disassemble, that I am resigned to painting it all once completed. And I could not see a way to do the operating wires with all the railings in place anyway. It's proved hard enough at this stage in any event. Anyway, I saw Derek Mundy's signal in the last Gazette article, and he had primed the whole lot in white before painting. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me!

Cheers

Best of luck with it, which ever way you end up doing it.

....

First of all - and just to put Jordan out of his misery - the gantry as it is at the moment, with the calling-on arm added to the left-hand doll. The full 9-arm complement:)
Uh-oh... How did you know I counted them before reading your post... :shit:

Hi

Last Saturday, we had a working day, and I was delighted to welcome back Geoff Taylor who spent the day weathering and teaching us the tricks of his trade and Rob Kinsey (Merthyr Riverside) who pitched in with the wiring for the signals. We had 8 people working, and things move quickly when there's that number available - all very competent at what they were doing and needing no supervision. I was really happy with the day's progress.

I asked Geoff to weather the station buildings and environs and took a few photos. Tim weathered the all too white station fencing which had been bugging him since Manchester, under Geoffs supervision.

Hi

I was asked by a couple of people at Kettering today how big Heyside was, and could I get an overall photo? Well, in its permanent location, an overall photo is not possible due to the constrictions of space outside the layout. However, I do have some taken at the Manchester show in October 2011. So a recap of some photos which will help to locate some more recent photos, and perhaps be useful anyway to new WT members:

and a track plan:

Hi

Allan is a great one for mock ups and trial runs - unlike me who just blunders in. If you look at the above photo, there are 4 round vents near the roof. Allan wanted to experiment with the brick work to see what he could do, so mocked up a gable end, and sent me this photo....

factory detail.jpg

The final version will use a different bond, but you get the idea. I can't wait to see the finished factory, but Allan is adamant it can't be done before Aylesbury. Still, at his time of life, he admitted that he didn't need much sleep....:)

I bought some nice packs of industrial corrugated sheeting at Kettering at Allan's request, which I believe he will use on part of the roofing.

That is superb Richard, in the nicest possible way I hope it's just around the vents that are individual pieces- Alan will go bonkers otherwise:)

Hi Richard,

Great to see you again yesterday:thumbs:. The level of detail just amazes me on your superb layout. I look forward to seeing all the progress later in the year:thumbs:.

This brickwork is up there with the best... if not the best... that I have seen on a model. My initial reaction was that this was another of Dave's spoofs! I do hope that you can persuade Allan to describe the technique for the texture and the colour.
