Thats come out all things considered  :)) Whilst the latice might be a little prone to distortion it does get a nice fine look

it will be a pity to paint it, let alone weather it - and that from a confirmed 'weatherer'

Hi

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciated.

Cynric. The idea has worked well, and there's very little I'd change. I like the half-etched lattice, it gives finesse, and you honestly don't notice the heat distortion, even if it's a bit of a fight at times - it certainly tests soldering skills. The thought of punching all the rivets on thicker pieces does not fill me with joy.

If I was to make a suggestion it would be to add the verticals (on the sides etch) from full etch every 6' where the stiffeners go, as once detached from the etch and while you are building it, there is only the flimsy half-etch lattice to set the height. Even then, I'm not sure that would ameliorate the 'problem'.

However, good fun, and a very acceptable outcome. Only another 120' to build now.

I know i'm a bit late with this but the bridge does look fantastic    :bowdown:and if this is anything to go the other larger ones will be even more impressive. What type of signal will be fitted Richard and how do you intend to work them ?

Hi Mick

Something like this....

[attachimg=1]

All L&Y, square post, L&Y cast balance weights, the only concession to LMS is the replacement U/Q arms. There will be 2 dolls, but the heights are reversed with the r/h one being the main line and the l/h arm being a short arm into the goods loop. You may notice a passing similarity of my bridge to that at Werneth  ;D

Servo operated, MERG controlled with bounce  That's Dibateg's department!

Cheers

Richard

Yes, there's no building behind as far as I can tell from other pictures. I suspect it's bolted to the far stonework. A nice feature to model too.

It looks to me more like the lamp is free standing between the bridge and the camera..??

Hi JB

Pic from the other side. In silhouette, it seems bolted to the capping stone, with the electrics running down the pillar in sheathing.

Of couse, if anyone has a hi-def photo to prove me wrong.....

Cheers

Hi

No more work on the bridge as such, but time has been spent fitting it and thinking about doll location now it's in place. The staging is unnecessarily long, so that will be shortened, but at least I know where I'm going now. It fits perfectly, so I am going to award both myself and Cynric a Heyside Gold Star ;D

Before and after photos...

Luck more than judgement  :)) I must say it looks a great improvement, and it will be even better with the signals on  it also  opens up that part of the layout.

A very nice bit of engineering there gents, and like you say once the signals are in place it should look the biz

Nicely designed and nicely put together chaps.

I think there's something very pleasing about lattice footbridges.  I had to work a train from Didcot to Swindon today and couldn't help noticing the main span from a GWR specimen (ex Culham?), plonked on the ground inside the Great Western Society's boundary fence.  I think a visit with camera and tape measure could be on the cards one day in the not-too-distant.  :)

They had a steam railmotor chuffing up and down whilst I was waiting for my train and it did look and sound good.

Agreed - very nice  - far more appropriate too than those massive plate girders.

Hi

Another Heyside loco arrived today. This is a real Oldham Loop loco. Built by Roger, it has its genesis in a JM Models kit, and has made considerable use of Laurie Griffin's castings. A monster tank loco, it is typical motive power for the area.
