John’s workbench - a miscellany.

Another day, another obsession

Hi John

Tried to reply earlier but forum seemed slow.

In this case and for once, I need to show restraint as it’s for others, but you’re dead right.

Umpteen permutations of these few in number images occupy my thoughts constantly, rearranging their sequence before changing them back again; including the works scene, then excluding it for an exchange siding behind the cottages, using the crossing gates as a scenic break at one end and the bridge at t’other (the photo I’ve reversed to suit!).

See what I mean?

Looking forward to seeing Altrincham Gasworks ;)

OK you asked for it - well @jonte did - this has rather distracted me from everything else….

First up - my birthday present from Gilly. A lovely surprise.

And this is a bit of the inspiration - tankie and opens on the street, cobbles, no skirts, pub…billboards, old Rover(?) new then.. There's a whole article in Bylines.

Its happening, its keeping me from the 2mm fence etc, maybe a little 02 shunted will turn up at Christmas…..

A wonderful present and most modellable scene, John

I’m afraid there’s no cure………….

Those figures have atmosphere as do the planks on the frame and the wagons. It never ceases to amaze how model wagons have perfectly vertical and smooth sides, whilst the real things seemed anything but. Character?

Thanks for sharing

Amongst a few other small additions to my growing list of models is this gem.

A Vincent Black Shadow from Trains & Terrains.

I was very ginger about cutting it off the supports.

But I think we got away with it.

Clipboard Charlie will give me a to do list later, once he’s gone over it…

I’m gobsmacked by the fine detail they’ve got into this. Handle with great care!

Just an aside while my glacier slowly melts… Gilly and I had a few hours to spare in Liverpool this week and found a very nice breakfast in a local chain (LEAF) that we were familiar with, in a building that had happy memories. LEAF have thoughtfully preserved the sign to mark the site. Breakfast was great by the way.

I’m guessing Smithdown Road, John?

Is it the original shop site, or the larger later one before they vacated to the retail park?
