Not sure. I thought the name originated in the ad and passed into popular culture. "Carlos Fandango" just works so well for anything OTT on wheels.

After a bit of research, I find that Peter Ustinov's creation was Juan Julio Fandango from Paraguay in the Grand Prix of Gibraltar.

Yesterday, a customer in the shop where I work explained, they moved house recently. The cat from next door arrived soon afterwards, and adopted their house and garden. They asked their neighbour the name of the cat.
