Managed to grab a few snaps of Simon's "Great Little Show". Very enjoyable event, friendly, good venue, excellent refreshments, with the added bonus of a fabulous bookshop just down the road!
Roll on Larkrail 2014......

I have just got home from a cracking day out, bear in mind i live near Cambridge which is not exactly just down the road but it was well worth the journey. It was great to meet up with some fellow WTers, some known to me, but some were met today for the 1st time.

So in no particular order, i had the pleasure of meeting Steph Dale who kindly explained the mysteries of DCC to me as i am a complete spoon when it comes to DCC, i have got as far as buying a system which still remains in its box, while there i got to look at his new range of gearboxes which look good, no scratch that, they look exceedingly good and although designed with O Gauge in mind i see no reason why they could not be used for Gauge 1 as well, which could prove to be very useful for me, watch this space !

Next up was Cookie with his super Aster Castle, i admit to having Aster's myself and i reckon Steve has done a really top job with his, you really need to see it in the flesh, then go see your local friendly Bank Manager etc etc.
No pictures of the Castle as there are plenty on here already but here is one of something else Cookie bought along,
photo-12.JPG

A rather cute Ruston utilising the superb John Dale 'old originals' kit, i believe the rights have been passed to a certain book seller in Bath who really should remove a digit from a certain orifice and make them available again,
no excuses for not sampling Gauge 1 folks, this is your way in.

Next up was Steve Harrod, aka Mr Tiger Viking of Worcester Road fame who bought along some of his Diesels for mere mortals such as myself to drool over, i will let the pictures do the talking,

Now here is something you do not see every day,
photo-13.JPG

I must admit i spent ages with Steve, asking multiple questions to help with my own class 22 build, really helpful and another top fella. Fred Phipps turned up with a D600 body for Steve, but i will post the pictures on the existing D600 thread shortly.

I found time to wander down to Da Shop, picked up a copy of Diesels in the West Country which i can confirm is rather stinky, but has some excellent images within, also a S/H bargain and last but not least a Slaters Milk Tanker kit to trundle behind the 22.
Altogether a wonderful show and i look forward to attending again next year, a top job Simon,

cheers to all, Rob (who also treated himself to a haircut in Bath)

Really enjoyed today as did my fellow operators, and it was great to put some faces to names. A good mix of displays and a nice emphasis on 'building things'. To those who cams and said hi and passed nice comments, thank you very much, and those that just came and looked, thank you to you too.
The layout was run at an exhibition today for the first time using DCC this afternoon, where both sound panniers proved reliable, not very noisy ;), and of interest to those watching.

It looks like you all had a ton of fun! If there's another show next year, I shall definitely try to get to it.

A really great day, thank you to everyone who came along as visitors or exhibitors.

Currently sitting and drinking tea with Tim and Steve, I haven't gone through all the results yet, but the show certainly "washed its hands" and I will be making a donation to the Julian House charity for the homeless, fuller details to follow.

Thank you very much for those pictures Tim and Chris:)):))

I did take some pictures and will post more later, but in the meantime thank you very much again to everyone who came along and made it such a very enjoyable day.

Toaster calling, got to go:)

Tim,

In a word 'no'. Slightly longer version is 'not for any length of time'. Dave and I had the chance to review progress this morning and we've come up with some thoughts on where the potential problems might be. I'll report more fully in the wifi DCC thread when I've got a clearer idea of the issue.

Great to meet you too, Rob. Thanks for your comments and hope the first foray into DCC goes well...!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself yesterday, Tim's photo of me is not at all representative of the day; I think I only had a couple of minutes free during the whole day. I was pretty much talked-out by the end of the day but of course the natter continued throughout the evening when I finally got to catch up with Steve, Simon, Tim, etc, etc...

I know I'm not the only one who woke up with a sore throat this morning! Hopefully not too many sore heads?

Of course there's also the re-energisation that occurs at these sorts of events. So the carriages will progress, I've got a loco to wheel up (this afternoon!), preparations for Telford and more time to spend working on photo tools. I really need to get working on a way to fit about 30 hours (and sleep) into a normal day!

A huge thank you to Simon & Leslie, and all the others who put the show together. The refreshments were first-rate as always with splendid service from Leslie & the boys and of course Tim and Daifly. I thoroughly enjoyed the day but got precious little modelling done on my demo as I was chatting to Joe Public or other exhibitors.
As CME says, a warm and friendly show. It was nice to meet a few more "Thunderers" including Dikitriki and Devon Belle. A visit to the shop relieved me of more of the folding stuff than I anticipated (only went in for an MRJ:rant:) but it has to be done and amongst the haul was the 2nd part of "Rails through the forest".

Apologies if I've missed anybody off but here are a few of my shots from the day. If anybody can put some more names to faces on the other posts please do so.

BTW I've realised I neglected to take any of Maiden Newton so look forward to seeing what others have taken.

Firstly a couple of Jerry Clifford's beautiful Tucking Mill Light Railway.
20130720_121341.jpg20130720_121420.jpg

The delightful "Nouvion" from Paul Stanford (Devon Belle) who incidentally was suitably dressed for the occasion.

20130720_130854.jpg20130720_151111.jpg

The Larkrail challenge was deservedly won by Steve Cook for his Aster Castle and he is seen here with his rather extravagant "Larkrail Challenge" trophy! I really must question the astronomical cost of such a frivolity:)).

20130720_132310.jpg20130720_132334.jpg

Next door to Steve was this huge open wagon (5" gauge?). An incredible piece of work that reminds one of the "apprentice pieces" of old. If the owner/builder is on WT I'd be interested in knowing a bit more about it.

20130720_153243.jpg

Chris Nevard's highly inspirational work needs no introduction of course...........

20130720_152056.jpg20130720_152504.jpg

On to the evening then and Steve Harrod's Warship basks in the sunlight.

20130720_192413.jpg

As does Steve Cook's Kingswear Castle...........

What japes!

I've always wanted to drive a Peckett:))

I can't compete with Chris's quality, but here we see Laurie Griffin appreciating the imagined noise from the actual horns from D600 Active, demonstrated by Steve Harrod with Andrew Vines holding Fred's masterpiece, Charlie in the background and Rob Cant looking on.

Beebarp.jpg

It was a great day, I've been out in the garden today wiring up the new track while Steve has made up another 4 X 45 foot panel section for the "back straight" - top man

Harry has just got the barbie going, the wine's just come out of the fridge and I reckon I'll get a bit more more done out on the line too - what a great weekend.

Thank you to everybody for their kind comments regarding Larkrail, very much appreciated.

Did he make it wheelspin, like at Chasewater a few years ago  (no, Tim, some of us have not forgotten..;) )

Nice to see all the layout pics... not sure about some of the others; was Mr Castens giving line-dancing lessons...?? :))
