Yes it's stunning, first time I had a proper look last night. Sorry about all the clutter in the pictures, had just finished a 10 hour shift, least I'm going for a game of golf now:)

Hi,

I have spent a lot of time over the last couple of weeks poring over pictures of the lubricator pipework on the footplate. I am satisfied that I know where things go (on the fireman's side at least), and which pipes go over or under which.

I have not yet fitted any to the footplate, but have fitted the pipes to the lubricator bodies:

2 x 8 feed, and 2 x 6 feed - same bodies, rearmost feed not used on the 6 way.

Front (4 feed) and rear (6 feed) gravity lubricators.

.... and because I'm in full fruitcake mode, I am making all the unions, clips etc. Here are 3 unions:

Nice! Certifiable....absolutely

I see I'm going to have to up my game play.....again

I admitted defeat on the oil feed unions, deciding that life was just waay too short and figuring that effort was best saved for the 1:32 build ;)

What dia are those pipes, the BLP is 0.3 and copper wire which whilst flexible is too flexible in some instances, those look like brass which may be much easier to work with, suppose it depends on what the real engines used, did the LMS use brass oil feed pipes and the SR copper? Important if your going to cut back the paint and polish on the finally model.

Superb, I too would be interested in what size pipe, nuts, and tube you have used for those unions?

The pipes are 0.35mm dia. I like using brass because it is less flexible than copper, but still easily bendable. I obtain mine from picture wire (B&Q etc) which I unwind and straighten. Cheap as chips:) In BR days, the pipe runs seemed to be painted, so black and mucky is the order of the day. The originals were copper, but if I wanted to represent that, I would still use brass, paint black and dry brush.

I'll take some pics and explain later when I do the next batch.

Hi,

Stage 1 in the lubricator fitting - I'm working from the back of the fireman's side towards the front.

The rear pot has 4 feeds going backwards and 2 forwards. The 2 forward feeds are left long and loose at this stage, but the rear 4 can be completed.

Note that they don't just 'fall' off the back of the footplate. There is a substantial (rubber?) pad which they go up and round - presumably to stop fracturing with the rear edge of the footplate moving. They also give a very good clue as to what pipes go where.

My pads were from brass rod filed to half-round.

Stage 2 lubricator fitting.

This is the rearmost Silvertown lubricator, fireman's side.

Note that you can read the writing on the lid casting. Lid hinge to front of loco, rearmost feeds not used, nor are the front 2 feeds used.
It is worth noting that there were some variations in the pipe runs, but this is pretty typical.

The clip on top of the splasher is a cut down clip from the Finney7 accessory etch E7/50 small pipe fixing brackets. (I'm trying to avoid selling things, but this etch is little known and for modellers who like to clip pipes down is a must have - and a darned sight easier than scratch-building the little blighters)

Anyone building a Duchess should be able to follow the runs from the pictures - should they so wish.

very neat and tidy modelling. Do you know when the accessory etches will come back on line. As there were a few in there that I used. GWR numbers and plates, pipe clips as you have, plus others

I know the number plates are back and we have stock, one gent at Telford took ten of them and I well remember the stack I counted them from

A lot of the other stuff is also on stock so if you know the bits and parts numbers then PM Richard and we can have a dig through for you .

This is useful information - and thanks for broadcasting it.
