7mm On Heather's workbench - a trio of JLTRT Mk2s

I do feel though Heather like I'm coming in too late and running down what you've already done. Quite the opposite intention as I'm sure you understand however - if there's owt' else I can maybe add to the mix please ask - and if you want to keep Dog Star Graham happy - ask in the Mk2 thread! P.S. This of course applies to anyone....

I never read it that way, so don't worry. I'm always open to criticism - and I'm glad I was encouraged to begin this thread of the build as I've learnt tons of great information. I like to get things as close to proper as possible, within the constraints of the kit (and budget). In fact, the whole process of building is the part I most enjoy.

Things slowed down a bit while I was under the weather. Today I am very nearly back to normal, whatever normal is.

The wrecking crew interior decorators have been in to the guard's compartment and filled in the extra windows, as well as moving about and adding some of the furniture. The sliding door, incidentally, does appear to be on the correct side according to the photos earlier in the thread. A change in colour scheme seemed in order, which will need another coat, but obviously the pie heater and lighting switch box will need the customary layer of Hammerite, complete with authentic paint runs.

My apologies Heather, never noticed the detail on the back - though you would have had a job getting by that handbrake :)

Unless you are modelling a Mk2 in preservation I'd stick with the colour you had - it should be rail grey...ish (& ignore the addition of the first aid box & not to be moved board etc in the photo's)

As has been announced officially by a FS-official (see this post and several after that), the state of being "normal" within the sphere of WT is whatever is happening when and where the question is asked.

iploffy, is there any reason to doubt what I'm saying here? Trust me it's the PV Control Panel in a BSO as built. No amount of BR books will tell you it's anywhere else, and certainly not adjacent to an MA control Panel on a Mk2, 2a-c as they were not fitted until the Mk2d's were built.

Ooh. Wha'd I miss? :oops:

Anyway, today's task it to complete the underframes, get them covered in grot, and then hope it warms up enough I can give the errant blue side a nice bath in some cellulose thinners. I'll begin building up the innards of the remaining coaches once the underframes are dry.

Piccies later. I promise.

I made an effort and tidied my workbench earlier. It's even got brushed down!

Anyway, this is the final version of the guard's compartment. I'm not changing it again. I'm getting carried away. ;)

Why can't I see those golfball-sized pebbles in the paintwork with the naked eye? Anyway, twin fire extinguishers installed.

The view from above. Repositioned handbrake (it's still not quite right, but I don't want the guard barking his knuckles on the pie warmer). What is that red thing? Oh, yes, I couldn't help myself. After some careful reviewing with a side in place, I felt I would be able to see a hint of an emergency coupling through the outside door.

Yes, even a heater duct. Once the thing's been given a wash of dirty black to bring out some details I think it'll look the part. The pencil mark is where the desk fits. Looks like I'll have to repair the lino, too. I know there should be security bars on the left hand window, but I'm not convinced you will see them once it's hidden in the murk. If I change my mind, I've got a set of bars to make up for the cage side windows anyway - one more won't hurt.

Meanwhile, all the missing parts have been fitted to the underframes, and they've been given a coat of paint. Two underframes need their bufferbeam details added, but I wasn't in the mood for brass casting fettling today.

Heather,

Very nice - but none of those emergency track clips - shame on you :p hehe

:D

I spent some time wondering how to fabricate them, and decided they were beyond my abilities. I suppose I could put empty racks in at least. :oops:

Haha!

As for the clips, how about just cutting their basic shape out of plastic card, paint black, glue to wall and they'll give the right look perhaps.

Cheers

Hey, I am tired... no spare stare available today.
I spent some time wondering how to fabricate them...
How about:-

1/ make wood supports from plastic strip;
2/ make clips from brass strip, bend to be a firm fit around wood supports;
3/ add fuse wire between each pair of clips.

Interested in how you get on with the TCCs as we shall need to make several sets for our Mk.1s and diesels.

BTW - where is the sand bucket?

regards, Graham

Heather.... I may be getting thoroughly confused with this build - there's a fair bit of mixing of Mk's going on I fear. Am I right in saying it's supposed to be a Mk2c? If so, unfortunately you need to ditch the Vacuum Brake Emergency Brake Valve from the Guards Van (or at least not put it back) They were all Dual Heat but Air-Brake only..... Needs to have two air pipes a emergency brake valve (a simple inline valve) and dual pressure guage...

Well spotted. A bit more filler required on the desk, and some references to the fittings for the air brake version - though (here we go again!) you probably can't see it. :D
