7mm Ressaldar's Workshop - a paintshop diversion

bought some 'Fimo' soft clay (has to be baked in the oven to set) at the local art shop on Saturday to try it through the jig - but after much kneeding and trying other tricks, no joy, nor with the Das after kneeding either.

So I think that that experiment is now dead in the water so I shall have to think of alternatives, such as a mould - either inverted and filled, or use a form of shuttering combined with a forming tool for the top surface - the latter being favourite - we'll see.

I remember going to a bloke who cast the full size things, he put concrete into an inverted mold and scraped the top off them, he placed the casting on a vibrating table then left it to set, it sank in the middle but this allowed for a better mortar grip. You could do the same thing only wetting the mold first then pushing the clay into it then inverting the mold then cutting to length.

as requested on the 'For Sale' thread, here is my first sound video - taken on a Fuji S5500 non HD bridge camera, hand (one hand most of the time) held while the other hand operated the controls and points. I've tried to 'play' all of the options at some stage and even got a mini short just after the coupling up - hope you enjoy it.

Hi Rob,

many thanks for the comments. The layout is just moving - the boundary wall which will be fixed to the 3 x 2 timber is painted, the piers have brickwork on two sides awaiting the front to be done then they will also be painted prior to fixing. The loading dock is primed and laying in position and awaiting the platform edging and the buildings to arrive - will be having a serious look at Telford for these items. Ballasting etc will take place prior to the platform and loading dock being fixed into position.

All is on hold at present while I paint and finish two ex LMS Inspection Saloons (1 blood & custard & 1 blue/grey) for a friend who will then be selling them.

Will you be able to make Telford or will you still be away paddling your canoe across the pond?

cheers

Hi Mike, sadly I have planned badly again, I go on my jollies the week after so I won't make Telford again this year:(

After what seems an age, I have now completed the painting etc of two Sidelines ex LMS Inspection Saloons which were built by a fellow Wirral OGG member. The lining (HMRS pressfix) pulled the Mk 1 eyeballs a bit, but i think that I won - eventually.

I was very tempted to apply some weathering, but I was given an ear bashing when I applied it to the last one that I did.

I understand that they will be put up for sale shortly.

cheers
