Hi mike,

Hope your well.

Nice 33 and inspection saloons.

You need to add some weathering at the bottom left of the doors on the 33 for boot marks.

The 37 demonstrates it better than the Peak. I remember 37901 being a git, you could be pulling as hard as you could to get one of the cab doors open and couldn't open it but you would hit a track joint and the door would open by it's self as if there was never a problem....minds of their own these diesel things you know!

In out, in out, shake it all about what I want to know is how can you be on the inside kicking the door shut whilst trying to open it?

Daft as it sounds but it worked.....you either kicked the bottom left hand corner (not the hinge side) or top left corner as thats where the door used to stick.

meanwhile, back to the thread.......................having well & truly got the MOJOs working by completing the painting and lining of the D2046 LMS Inspection Saloons, I have picked up the cudgels and am continuing the build of the ex LSWR Directors Saloon that was converted to an Inspection Saloon (for a second time) in 1958 mainly for use with the Kent Coast electrification programme. The chassis was completed sometime ago and there have been glimpses of it in primer in a couple of photos recently.

I have now finished both sides and am about to start on the ends.

There are a number of small and very small detailing parts - escutcheons to the end doors being among the latter - they have an offset 0.5mm hole in them and the overall diameter is less than 1.0mm.

Overall the etches are very good and once the minefield of the instructions is understood, then slow steady progress is the order of the day. The alignment of the end doors and the kitchen window is achieved through 0.5mm reference holes in the side and door/window and with the use of the RSU, they went in quite well.

The reference wire can be seen in the top righthand corner, the upper and centre door hinges are on the door window etch and the lower hinge is a separate etch with an angled etch line to enable the outside edge of the hinge to be vertical.

All in all, an enjoyable couple of days work and the flow is about to be interupted with a trip South to see the latest grandchild for the first time - the first boy, so I'll have to start thinking about a layout soon:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

cheers

Great pics of the Inspection Saloons, especially the blue/grey one:thumbs:

Did you say or have i read somewhere that Easybuild might be doing one soon ?

I've just been looking at the advert in the gazette from Orion Rail Kits at their Inspection Saloon, looks really nice also in blue/grey.
