Not yet Rob still not 100% health wise so am unable to see the bloke at work to do the drawings. I am it looks like going to take up an offer I received a while ago to do the 310/12 etches and ask him to copy what Cynric(god bless you mate) did

By the way I scrapped the original composite driving coach as it was made from the light blue plastic and was almost impossible to work with so I have a number of the dark blue ones so am starting that coach again. 40+year old plastic is not a very good medium to be bodging anything from. The original didn't survive its crashworthy ness as I dropped it.

Hope you have a speedy recovery mate.. Im sure it wont be too long before your 100% again.

As regards the Mk2 window etches see if he can incorporate more than one coach worth on a fret.;) The more the better and i would think better value for money.

Rob:)

I think there's a covert plot going on here to eliminate all of the original blue plastic and replace it with filler.......

Ha you've stumbled on to my plan, seriously with the amount of hacking and bashing that these things have taken I am very surprised there is any of the BLUE plastic left. The filler is a coat over the top of the entire coach it will enable me to remove any imperfections in the surface and allow me to true up all of the window openings as this is to be a master it needs to be near enough right, I don't mind telling you the windows have been a pig to do. The added plasticard on the extremes should add a little bit of protection to the brittle plastic.

Ah yes, I was forgetting this is a master! I don't recall you telling us what production method you plan to use - resin moulding maybe?

Ha drastic action is called for it looks like my old Hillman Avenger with all of the different coloursphoto(9).JPG
All of the windows have been cut and filed on this side and I decided that there was not enough of a bond with the original plastic:headbang: so I increased the surface area of the bond:confused:. I will file it to shape and fill it then a coat of paint

Update for a bit of recovery therapy I have tried to concentrate on my models again with little success on the bodies of the coaches trying to get everything straight and level I have decided to get the windows etched, Whilst I tentatively work out the respective sizes of windows I managed to get access to the 312 at Coventry and armed with Sgt Marsa's Measuring tape undertook a little measurement therapy (and nearly fell off if I had there would have been a diddy Marsa). It emerged that I was not too far out with the cab but not close enough, so guess what armed with new pictures and a new lump of Big Big I converted measurements to 7mm and got closer. I attached a block of wood to be able to hold it properly ( you live and learn) and the filing and sticking began using the knowlege that I got from my first effort. Slow progress but at least I am picking the thing up again.

I have found the plastic weld Cynric gave me melts the Big Big plastic so Plasticard adherers to it. More tomorrow

Well after nearly a week and a very short attention span and shorter time spent on it we have this, its the 312 Mk2photo(19).JPG
A really cruel close up the black lines are where the top and bottom of the windows will go. I am in the process of smoothing it out with fine wet and dry paper and have only done where the windows will go. I am still applying milliput in very small doses to fill in and small imperfections there are in the finish. I will leave the headcode box rough as this will need to be cut out to illuminate it. I have done the 312 first as I had the opportunity to go and measure the one at Coventry and realised that if I do the 312 first the cast it , then do a minor mod to make into a 310 then cast it , then finally cut the windows out to make them wrap around. compare it to thisphoto(18).JPG
the windows are a bugger to do as they are the same generic type common to both classes I decided to mess around with thin plasticard like sophoto(13).JPG
Sorry it's a bit blurred and a trial fit looked like thisphoto(16).JPG
the buffer beam is a bit on the deep side but you get the idea. again I was still unhappy with this and decided to try and have a play with it even more. It's moving very slowly and all of the rough edges are coming off 1 by 1

Try again well, I have finally returned from my sabbatical in Cornwall and during this visit I met Shaun of Easy Build who had in his mits the plastic sides a roof and a floor and an end for me to have a little play with to carve out a 304 end
photo(9).JPGphoto(10).JPG
It will give me something to do as well as the 310/12. it's basically a Mk1 profile with added ends. it will be the same format as the 310, as I am waiting for the etches at the mo I can't really progress much further.

At the moment I have the attention span of an ameba and am trying a little bit of scattergun modelling to refocus my efforts on getting better, I just hope it works. Being depressed aint much fun.
