I got a question on perspective, I have uploaded a few photo's and the front is a bit of a problem . Looking directly at the front you will see at the bottom there are 2 smaller cut-outs that contain jumper cables and there receptacles in the middle there is a larger cut out, my problem is this, are the two outer most cut outs at an angle (pointed at in red) as all of the drawings I have say they are not.7529211992_6e2fdbe202_z.jpg310 DTS 003.jpg

It looks angled to me on al the pics I've seen. Can you get to the one at Coventry to check and take dimensions?

Cheers

I agree with Tom and Graham. The face-on shot is angled upwards which would straighten out inwardly angled lines due to perspective, as you mentioned.

I would agree with them being angled inwards to the top - according to the first picture where the subject is more distant and not so subject to any possible lens distortions.

Difficult one. On unit 084 it does appear the outer sides are angled all the way up. I think the change in angle is more to do with the fact the nose also has a tumblehome.

Another vote for angled here, although the outer edge on the RHS look curved, probably due to lens distortion, if you look carefully at the LHS it does look slightly narrower at the top.

Angled, your shots show later noses with blanking plates, with plates removed its easier to see the angle and the shape of the recess under the blanking plates.

Although these are 312, they are identical to the 310 in this area as can be seen by older shots of AM10s etc.

Not sure if it's relevant, but couldn't help noticing it... The secondmans wiper is missing on both of the Ipswich shots, but it's present in photos further up the thread. Is that a 310/312 difference or a geographical issue or a particular period modification?

Interesting, some 310s had them removed when they still had one piece screens but most 312, even the /2 class seem to have them removed all the time. Some of the information above is incorrect, 310 have always had the blanking plate over the sockets and MU hose valves, I thought it was a later modification, looks like it was there from very early days.

Thanks for that I thought I was seeing things, I am building up the master at the moment on the end of a Surplus old Big Big coach spare from cutting. The dimensions are almost cock on , Just the roof profile is a smidgen too tall. Pictures when more Plastic has been built up and the shaping has begun.

Hi Mick,

Do you know the number of the 31 ?.

Steve
102 I'm led to believe, don't know how I know that as I never wrote loco numbers down when photographing but this shot is on Flickr and there's no notes so assume someone tipped me off at some stage.

It wifey here. It would never have happened in your day due to the fact we cannot go back to prehistoric times unfortunately. However today women have now intellectually bypassed men and you are still thinking what the F..k happened.

Here's what I have so far. I am building up the layers of plastic on the front to get this shape310 DTS 2 020.jpg
As you can see it's like me a bit on the tubby side, but this is as far as I have got, must let the solvent dry overnight to be able to add more tomorrow.

This is after 2 layers of Plastic just one more to add

Sorry the picture is blurred taken from the I phone, but it shows where the windows will be

This is the back of the Big Big coach showing the amount of bracing that I had to the rear to stop it breaking. This will be removed when the front has been completed.
Please don't forget this is the master for casting the driving cabs and as such will take alot of carving and filling to get right.
