And some very nice postcards!

I have at least one of those, very fetchingly wrapped in smart blue paper by said shopkeeper. I left a list with Simon and dropped heavy hints with all and sundry that if they were stuck with what to buy me.......only four more sleeps till I find out if anyone else took up my suggestion:)

Oh yes, "The Jeremy Clarkson book of Extreme Train Journeys" I'm sure you'll like it.

Why's everyone looking at me like that - have I said the wrong thing again?

I made a visit to "The Shop" this afternoon and a spent an hour in discussion with Simon. True to his word, there is a huge range of books featuring Westerns, around fifteen titles by the time that Simon had finished "Hoovering" books from the shelves (several of which would qualify for the "Iploffy stamp of approval"). Three titles have made there way to (near to) Basingstoke.

As with the Westerns, Simon was able to show me a fair number of books relating to freight wagons and freight service in the period 1970-1990. A couple of useful books have exchanged owners.

And then there was MRJ 219, the "daylight-sensitive" copy.

What a pleasure to find a bookshop owner who can provide such a service in response to a broad request for titles on singular subjects. And a decent cuppa to boot!

Hi Graham

Thank you very much for visiting the shop today, it was nice to see you both and your purchases were very much appreciated. During our conversation Charlie estimates that he ate in excess of ten chocolate chip cookies after having offered them around, looking at what's left I feel his estimate may be on the conservative side:eek:

I am very happy to report that between yourselves and the other visitors to the shop today sales have exceeded those on the opening jamboree and achieved a new best ever for the Titfield Thunderbolt bookshop:thumbs:

A whole book on the Mineral Loop - how much better can it get?! (well your choice of drink and eats has probably elevated it to a new level of bliss! ;))...

I was very pleased to find the new re-print on the Denbigh to Mold line in my stocking!

Possibly, depends upon one's point of view.
Its a corker, lots of great pictures of small collieries...
Precisely.

Ian Pope showed me the draft of this volume many years ago and added, with a despairing grin, "still no photos of a service train on the Mineral Loop". I thought he was pulling my leg as we were sitting outside the pub near to Moseley Green tunnel.... refreshing ourselves whilst walking from Lightmoor to the Pluds.

Glad you like it Jerry, Santa and I were a bit worried you might have got it already.

In similar vein I am really enjoying reading my present, the new Bodmin and Wadebridge book by Michael Messenger.

A real treat, not least the detail of the earlier years and the number of proposed but never built railways:eek:

I ordered from Simon yesterday 'The Book of the H15 and S15 4-6-0s' by Peter Swift, published by the Irwell Press ltd.
It arrived today, wow, what a great service and a truly stunning book, pictures and a history of every class member, lists of tender swops, boiler swaps etc sheds, liveries etc i could go on and on. An essential book for anyone interested in these locomotives. Order now and hope Simon still has some in stock, thanks for the great service mate, regards Rob

That's very kind of you Rob:thumbs:

I'm glad you liked the book and well done to all the folk at Royal Mail for delivering it so quickly:)

MRJ 220 now in stock, a real corker I think. A super Metropolitan loco on the cover and an article on weathering with acrylics featuring American locos and a German WW1 Flying Ace standing by his biplane:))

Includes a preview of what looks to be a really stunning 7mm model of Llanberis LNWR too:bowdown:

I've started packing up ready for the Yate show this weekend, which I am looking forward to.

The shots of Llanberis are very tantalising, although the comments about modifying a 44ft refrigerated trailer are ringing bells in the back of my addled mind!

Don't forget the fine article on improving Slaters wagons with MMP etchings by a certain WT contributor!

I have just updated my website, the new books upload will have to wait until Monday as I'm packing up ready for the Sodbury Vale show at Yate this weekend.

Thank you to several WT members for orders received, I must say that one way and another this Titfield Bookshop Malarkey is keeping me on my toes:eek:

Got to go.....
