Let me add my congratulations and best wishes to Simon for this momentous move. With all due respect to my own publisher, Wild Swan is still the yardstick by which all the others are measured – and usually found wanting. The only thing I miss from my paste-up days is the whiff of the Cow Gum; for the rest of it give me Quark or InDesign any day.

More power to your elbow!

As a Wild Swan junkie, I have absolutely no idea why anyone would choose to label them as Dead Duck! Running a specialist book publishing operation must rank as one of the most rewarding ways of putting something back into a hobby/interest. Congratulations Simon.

I have long admired the products of Wild Swan. Not the cheapest but a quality book warrants quality materials which will stand the test of time. I have been guilty of buying a book more because of its superb feel or style than its specific content, and have widened my interests as a result! There have been recently some wonderful books published with creative layouts and graphics, although the traditional Wild Swan quality styling remains pretty timeless and works well.

Respect to those who make the effort to research and lay out fascinating technical treatises and histories, and to those who publish them so that others may enjoy and learn.

Good luck, Simon, but I guess we're all going to have to make our own tea or coffee when we visit the shop now, you're obviously going to be far too busy getting the Camerton Branch trilogy out, together with Severn & Wye Vols. 5, 6, 7, 8 & 9...:p


Oh, and this now makes it a lot easier for me to put in my annual request for a reprint of S&Y Vol 3!!

It's no loss. I'm there under duress, as a lot of my friends are spread over the UK and the rest of the world. It's a useful-ish way to keep in touch.

In fact, I "left" Facebook a few years ago. I closed my account, thinking it deleted. Then some of my modelling work was shared by JLTRT on their page, it got some interest and I thought it might be worth a new account and a proper page to showcase my work.

Imagine my surprise to discover my old account lurking there, just waiting for me to crawl back. Think Hotel California: you can check out any time, but you can never leave. You're better off never checking in, believe me.

I'm with you there, Captain. However, I suspect if you have a business it's considered quite important nowadays. As for me, I have a few proper friends. Everyone else are acquaintances, much as I may enjoy their company. And how someone can ask to be your "friend" on the basis of having met you once escapes me.

I'll take your advice, Heather and not check in. In fact, as I said when I came in, if this is a club that'll have me I don't think I want to join..... (Only joking as far as WT is concerned, of course!)
