Another masterpiece! I love the underframe, everything looks so natural, as though the body has been cleaned in the past but it's starting to gain it's covering of grime again.

A job I’ve really enjoyed and just completed is this Heljan Class 47.
The actual loco was loaned to the SR and used on the Bournemouth Belle.
I used the photographs my client supplied of it in the condition of its time on the SR.

No new techniques. I just look hard at the reference material and try to replicate that using the techniques I’ve pretty much used from the outset.

A very nice model to weather; Masterpiece Models GWR 2800.
I am a big fan of the locos 12”-1’ and have enjoyed thoroughly trying to recreate the workaday state of the loco in the BR period.

There’s something about the shape (proportions?) of these 7mm engines that just doesn’t look right in glossy black.
Perhaps because one’s eye is taken upward a bit? (I have one I keep looking at).
This one looks ‘just right’!

I agree.
They just don’t look quite right in glossy black, or any gloss really, they look better grubby-filthy to my eye.
