Ozzy, that's correct the Up and Down carriage sheds just outside the station and the bottom of Camden bank but no loco facilities there, nearest is Camden shed at the top of the bank just before you plunge into Primrose Hill tunnel.

Indeed there were up and down carriage sheds. Those at Primrose Hill, next to the station, were goods and parcels though. That building was knocked down in relatively recent memory and replaced with a supermarket. I'm not sure whether the up side carriage sidings are still rail connected but the EMUs used to be stored there. I seem to remember that there's no overhead catenary there now. The EMUs are now stored approximately on the site of Camden Shed - indeed some small parts of the old railway buildings still exist in a rather impressive glass building developed only a few years ago. The old covered sidings are not now rail connected although the shed remains at the moment. It's been empty for years so I have no idea what will happen to it. Maybe there's a preservation order on it but I know not.

I'm confident that there was no loco servicing facility outside Euston before Camden Shed.

I used to work in London and travelled via Euston every day for a number of years in the late 60s and through the 70s, then worked in London again for three or four years around 2000. It's been fascinating to watch the infrastructure change over the period.

The picture I found of the jub was definitely Camden now I've looked in to it. It would make a great layout but alas I shall leave that one to some one else I'm firmly set on my piece of London Grot

Here's a link to a converted road rail tank wagon I'm having scratch built, it was converted to carry diesel oil. I have a picture of it at Ranelagh bridge.

It's tucked behind D1000.
They lasted until the late 80's. It could have been seen at steam sheds or stabling points before refuelling points where installed. Or later at DMU stabling points or small diesel stabling points providing a top up if needed. Other than that it's quite an interesting looking wagon.
There is a chance this might appear as a RTR project from JLTRT, any one interested ?? I'm not sure of a price just yet.
I've bumped this just in case any one missed it on the previous page.

65 foot tables on the western, same as at RB you could squeeze a duchess on there, myself and Ozzy have checked you know just in case one does make a visit!!
I did look at landore, Shrewsbury is quite interesting or if you just want something set around a turn table weston super mare is a good one.
Electric blue AC electrics and dirty steam locos would look great, based somewhere around rugby could work.

You may or may not know but in Jan/Feb of 56 four LMR pacifics were loaned to the GWR whilst the Kings went in for emergency repairs, 46254 was one and just found a photo of it leaving Paddington, it may have turned at RB but more likely at OOC. Another was 46210.

Regarding your image of a Jubilee at Camden, is it off the web and is it 45552?, if so that's not Camden, it's in my pile to investigate and it is tagged on the web as Camden, but it's not:thumbs:

I'm guessing the '48 trials locos might have visited Ranelagh Bridge, but I suspect it was more likely they were serviced at OOC; that way you'd get away with some proper engines...

Yes I know about the jan feb 56 excursions, gives me a great excuse apart from the big western engines the princess and duchess are my favourite of all the other regions
It's in my signature " a visit from staniers finest in January 1956"
Only problem is they sent both a stanier duchess & an Ivatt one Too!!! What to do.
Il put them on my list but I'm not promising we will see them before I'm 45 & I'm only 34 now!!

Going back to Princess Royals and the later Princess Coronations with regards to GWR heritage. both classes utilise the same arrangement for driving the inside valves via rocking arms from the outside, ala Kings and Castles.

Additionally, 6200 & 6201 have an inside motion bracket to support the outside slidebars, a direct copy of Kings and Castles, 6204 onward had the standard Stanier outside mounted slide bar bracket except 6205 which had the monsterous Y bracket.

Close but no cigar, the Princess Royals had four independent sets of motion, apart from 46205 that drove the inside piston valves from the outside at the front of the cylinders via rocking levers.

The Princess Coronations on the other hand only had two sets of motion driving the inside motion via rocking levers from the rear of the cylinders.

So in a way the loco that was the closest to any G.W.R. four cylinder loco was 46205 only in that the inside piston valves were driven from the front of the cylinders. That is if you ignore the small fact about where the valve gear is!

I received my first double glazed window yesterday so that was promptly fitted. I nipped up to see my dad and showed him pictures of my progress and the nice picture of him on the wall in the cab of the duke, that made him smile so much so that I came home with another 5 wagon plates, two need rubbing and painting but another three are up and looking nice, image.jpg
Not really model related but I thought you might like to see my progress.

For two years from 1972 I used to travel from Crewe to Euston nearly every Friday evening and get the Emerald Isle Express (the Hollyhead ferry train) back on the Sunday evening.

Other than observing the ever-changing infrastructure as you mentioned (even on a weekly basis), I used to entertain myself -

A) on the Friday run by sitting on the toilet seat in the Mk3 coaches, removing the washdown plug and observing the wildly oscillating wheel immediately below  . This gave me a good insight into the workings of the tyre / track interface - anyone who thinks the wheel runs in a reasonably straight line is very much misinformed. It also made me appreciate good bogie / suspension design, as all that flailing about was well contained within the bogie and never reached the body of the coach.
B) on the Sunday run by watching, and listening to, the ever-increasing 'empties' from the 24 can packs brought on board by the good folk returning to their home isle as they rolled from side to side as the coach careered and lurched at high speed through sometimes indifferent track. The stretch through Nuneaton was always particularly bad, and I recall thinking not only that ear defenders might be a good travelling companion, but that a Permanent way supervisor could do a lot worse than ride said train and take scientific measurements of the noise emitted by the errant beer cans related to location. He'd end up with a pretty accurate map of areas where 'jacking and packing' was required!

Egad Osgood, what this country needs is more people with your sort of vision, I like the cut of your jib:bowdown:

I trust you had a ticket:))

Meanwhile back in W2....
