Anyone any idea what rattle can would do for BR diesel roof grey, specifically a class 20 in green. Wilko's grey primer is much lighter than Halfords and a little warmer, but my can self destructed today.

I'm not fussed about accuracy as I don't believe in it, so I am looking for a light warmish grey.

Cheers

I'm voting for Halfords Ford Dove Grey for a Class 20 roof, has the lightness and warmth I was looking for.

I was asked the question ‘what is the RAL number for Rail Blue' and came across this list of RAL numbers

Paint Colour Codes - Cherry Clan

which I hope will be of use to some members.
Thanks for posting - I should have remembered those  Although on the website I mention a couple of the suppliers following a recommendation from @Ian_C I have started using Zero Paints, limited testing so far but very happy with the results. The advantage being pre-mixed for the airbrush.

They will supply 60ml jars to the various RAL colours. - the full colour list is available here
RAL Paints (European Standard Colour Range) 60ml | ZP-1033 | Zero Paints

note you need to hover over the colour list table to scroll it to the higher RAL numbers.

This looks a very useful webpage, the point about yellow warning panels is very interesting. The BS colour reference also very useful as it appears to come from a published BR source.

Does anyone know where the document referenced in the GCR wagon and wagon webpage above might be found?

So what we have to do is go back to the British Transport Commission and their specifications, specifically B.T.C. Spec. 32A. Dated 1955

They have the 32A document. There's also a 32B document I read of that is from 1964/65.

Any clues gratefully received.

Earlier in this thread there was a comment about Halfords greys being too dark, I know that was a few years ago,
but there are many high street shops selling rattle cans, including B&M, Home Bargains, and the various Pound
shops, etc. That should give enough variety, and they're normally cheap enough to get a few, to experiment with.

I've noticed that Halfords have changed the way they sell car paint, seems like they do not go by manufacturer colour now on the can. So you need to go through the supplied chart and find your make etc.

I'm looking for a BR warning yellow. Vauxhall Mustard Yellow was the olden days go to, but I suspect this colour has long gone, so any ideas now?

Cheers

I went to Halfords to consult their colour guide and found most colours are missing from the list. There's now a range of colours and if your colour isn't in the book, you are out of luck. You can take a punt on the can visually, but this I decided wasn't for me so I went to The Range.

The Range have a rack full of Hycote with a reduced set of old colours that Halfords don't have, half useful but they didn't have the colours I was after.

I then noticed another shelf of spray cans from a company called Maston. Half of which had RAL numbers, so I plumped for these two as a starter. BR warning yellow and BR coaching stock crimson.

Our WT benefactor @adrian posted these RAL colours on his website.

Tim, They are acrylic. Further details on their website, although I haven't actually found the RAL colour list yet....

Warren Haywood also put out a list of paint codes which i believe was on W.T.
I admit i haven't done a search though .
As explained in the link that is how I compiled the list of paint codes from Warren's postings on WT - so I've saved you searching for them.

I suspect going to Halfords whilst convenient, is effectively now reset awaiting speculative testing from those brave enough to test. Any previous published lists of Halfords colours should be ignored in my view. Halfords primer etc is of course still available and good stuff.

I have previously ordered a can of BR blue from eBay, waiting to test it, was from a seller called Everything Paint.

Specifying via RAL or BS is easy but not as convenient as Halfords sadly.
