7mm Heyside: 7mm L&Y, late 50s/early 60s

Hi Folks

We've now got the gantry in place, ready for Tony to commission on Saturday. It's been further weathered, had the spectacles glazed using glass paint, and the vertical operating arms added to the cranks (0.55mm steel wire). All the arms operate smoothly still (big sigh of relief), and I am very pleased we have managed to get this done before Aylesbury.

Now I have to get the signals on the bridge finished too.....

I liked that too, Heather - the advantage of using a translucent glass paint.

More piccies. I have finished reworking the factory with the fire escape. This involved repairing the surface where the old fire escape was removed, repainting and matching the colours on the right hand 1/4 of the building, and then further weathering everything so, hopefully, you don't see the join. The fire escape is bolt on should I ever need to remove it. oh, I also repainted the doors a dull green. Previously brown, they did not show at all.

I think I need a bloke having a fag on one of the landings...

We've now got the gantry in place...
Richard is being too humble about this S&T masterpiece. I had a trackside pass to Heyside for today and the gantry is absolutely superb and nicely weathered. If you can get to Aylesbury at the end of May then drool in person... and then repeat the symptoms when studying the scrub behind the platform... and around the advertising hoarding. Everywhere oozes character.

great weathering on the gantry, I particularly like the subtlety of that distant arm in the middle

+1 from me with regards the signalling work, fantastic. I love to see every aspect modelled to a high standard it really creates an amazing scene:thumbs: .I am still campaigning with SWMBO to allow the end of may trip. I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed that I get to see Heyside in the flesh

Thanks for all your support chaps and chapess.

No pressure to perform at Aylesbury then:)

I've just finished painting the footbridge/signals and glazed the spectacles, so that is drying in the boiler room overnight. Tomorrow it will be weathered, and all being well, fitted and commissioned Saturday. Then we will have a fully signalled layout with one operating session to train a couple of signalmen. Organised chaos beckons.

Cheers

Railex is only two weeks away! have you noticed both MRJ and Railway Modeller have used photos of Heyside to go with their show previews even though I send them photos of the other layout coming.

By going to our web page www.railex.org.uk you can down load the floor plan all the 7mm layouts are grouped together at the far end of the hall
