Excellent pics Richard:thumbs:.

Its a bit uncanny as i was only just talking to Phill about the wagon labels and here they are on some of your superb wagons.

Where did you get them from ?

Rob:)

Hi Rob

Can't answer you I'm afraid. The ones I have have come from vans finished either by Dibateg or 7mmMick. If they see the question, I'm sure they will let you know.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi

It will be good to see you there. I'm sure you will have a good time. We've decided that as so many people have said they are coming to see Heyside, we will have to put some temporary seating on Bucks Hill's fiddle yard:D:p

Cheers

Hi Richard,

T minus seven days and counting, I bet the Heyside group are looking forward to the weekend. The setts look great, I'm still working on my pass for Sunday but I'm almost sure I'll be there, can't wait

Rob, the labels are available through Parkside, I forget the brand name at the minute. There are many different labels for different time periods. They have self adhesive backing and can be applied as new. The ones I did on Richard's wagons were distressed with a scratch brush and weathering powders. Looking at prototype photos of similar vans showed badly worn posters that became illegible. Hope this helps, :)

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help:thumbs:.

Mick, do you know what labels would be seen on vans during the late 60's early 70's. I guess most would be distressed by then but would there be a particular type/brand?

Rob:) sorry for the hyjack of your thread Richard:oops:

Rob,

If you follow Dave's link and probably stick with the 60's design ones first and then try and pick up some prototype photos. It depends really what type of vans you have and what you want them to be carrying. There is a good article on them in an MRJ, I'll dig it out and PM you the details if that helps?

Thanks Daifly:thumbs: I think its time for a little research. I have 12 ton ventilated fruit vans so i guess that will be the clue:oops: d'oh:rolleyes:.

Yes please Mick, that would be very much appreciated:thumbs:

Fantastic! Really looking forward to seeing this at Aylesbury.

Blimey, I've not seen E167449 for nearly 10 years, but I'd recognise it anywhere. It was one of a handful of wagons which, as part of a short-lived experiment, I scored wood grain on to while trying to hone my weathering style. In retrospect the scored grain was a little over-cooked, but served as a good leaning process.

Edit: Found a photo and the exif data on the original says Sept. 2005 which must be when I took the shot to put it on ebay. I was still wrestling with my DSLR back then too!

Apologies for the additional thread hijack Richard but I do like this 'company' wagon, and I think Adrian is doing himself an injustice about the graining. I like it

Hi Mick

I like the wagon too. I'm fortunate in that I have been in the right place at the right time to acquire some really good rolling stock. Apart from your 8 wagons and Adrian's 4 (plus a brake van I now remember - I don't think anyone recognised Adrian's wagons when they came up....I did!), I have 20 or more that Dibateg finished for me - my build, but I didn't have the time to paint them. In addition, Dibateg's wagons, and Clive's, are also excellent models.

Although I like to think Heyside is a good layout in its own right, for me, it's the quality of the stock we will be running that really makes it, because when all's said and done, I really prefer building locos in particular and stock in general to layout work.

We had the first practice session last night. It's going to be quite demanding to run Heyside properly. The operators will require a lot of discipline to be aware of signals at all times, and the signalman will be a nervous wreck after a few hours.
But what fun to have all the signals working, it sure adds another dimension to playing trains:) We were also able to test out the communications system that enables the yard shunter to talk to the signalman. It's quite clear that the yard shunter, who has a much better view of the layout than anyone else, will have his part to play in ensuring smooth operation.

Hi

We had a final testing and modelling day today, and while there's more we want to do, end everyone has gone away with homework, we are ready and raring to go for Aylesbury.

Allan has been working very hard on the factory. It won't be finished, but it is far advanced, and certainly good enough to have in place next week. I think it fills the difficult corner space superbly, and again adds height to the layout.

The following 2 photograps were taken to try to get a suggestion of all the different roof lines.

The thing I like about the last photo is how insignificant the 2 men in the allotment appear, which gives some sense of the scale.

I've just been going through the pages of Hayside and it's great to see how far this layout has come

Thanks John. That's a lot of pages to wade through! The key is having a dedicated and talented team. They have all been putting a lot of time in of late, and without their efforts, Heyside would be little more than a test track.

I have taken some videos today. The first couple to be processed are these:

Heyside diesel - Tim's newly finished class 37 (JLTRT kit) . Looks great, runs great, sounds great, it is a top model  It will be on the Aylesbury roster.

This one shows the final test of Roger's 2 Black 5s - and the gantry working if you look hard enough. Tim is going to tweak the CVs a bit, but you can't have too many Black 5s - we will be taking 4 to the show.

That all looks superb! The atmosphere, the smooth running, signals, the stock etc. etc. all add up to something really special. The fact that everything is done to the same (high) standard makes it really gel into a convincing model. All you need now is a smoke machine belching out clouds of clag!!
Well done to the entire team for creating something that I'm sure will be the centre piece of Railex - I'm really disappointed that I can't get to see it in the flesh - when are you going to be heading into the frozen hinterland of the north?

Thanks Adrian,

At the moment, we have not committed to any further exhibitions. We're only going to do the sort of exhibition we would like to go to ourselves as punters, so that restricts it a bit. We declined Warley and my approach to York was met with a deathly silence. In truth, it is not known that it is available as an exhibition layout. We are at Aylesbury because I wrote to David in October 2011 after Manchester, and he was prepared to take a punt on us.

I'm assuming that we will get some enquiries at Aylesbury, and that, with the GOG stand next door, we might just end up at Telford some time:). We won't go out very often anyway, and if it's only once a year, that will be fine with me. So, to answer your question.....dunno!
