great stuff Richard, what is planned for the 'forecourt' to the warehouse?

Hi Mike

We're still kicking this one round. I'm presuming you mean the factory shown in yesterday's videos. You can just see the concrete end of an office on the left hand wall. This is going to be part of a PW yard, fenced in, in front of the smaller left hand part of the factory.

As to the right hand, bigger side, don't know. We haven't decided what the factory is making - any suggestions will be gratefully received - and until we do, we don't know what to stack outside it, either materials in or product out.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Richard

How about those photos of Shakespeare Foundry in Bolton? I am referring to the stacks of stillages on the pavement and on the road... if you make the stack of empty stillages then you can choose whatever you like for production... 'cos it is wakes week!

If my previous post is a puzzle... then try these links to the original posts:-

Shakespeare Foundry here and there ...

and no, that is not my kennel, I stayed in the Premier Inn about 100 yards down the road.

Good thought Graham.

Can you post some 100% shots of the stillages themselves please. Still have to consider what to put in them - or rusty and empty for Aylesbury! Size? 4' x 3' x 2' ?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

I would have thought that the cotton industry would provide most of the answers + some engineering bits and pieces from machinery maintenance/renewal and perhaps a water hose dangling from the fire escape?

cheers

Hi not knowing much bout this but who's sound have you used in the 37 it sounds superb

Hi John

It's a Zimo 695, large scale decoder, from Digitrains, programmed with Paul Chetter's excellent Multi-Drive system:

http://www.digitrains.co.uk/ecommerce/search/zs37m-class-37-all-ee-multidrive.aspx

(.........although I now see there is an interesting alternative here)

Sound fires downwards through a big hole cut in the chassis. There are 2 Alan Butcher speakers, which are similar to these:

Sorry if this sounds like an advert for Digitrains, but they do supply some good sounds!

Hi Richard,

I know you're probably in need of a well earned rest after what must have been at times a very stressful weekend but I just wanted to say what a triumph Heyside is and what you and group have achieved is simply wonderful. A layout capturing a period in time like this with such a high level of modelling in every area is rarely seen. A joy to watch and massively inspiring, I could have stood and watched all day but for obvious reasons I couldn't ( one more train daddy and then can we go ) :)) :)). So often the small kids spoil the big kids fun :)). Well done to one and all,

ATB Mick

Hi Mick

Thanks. I thought it brave of you to come all that way with the kids. It was great to see you and so many other WTers. Both you and Buckjumper got to see 'their' wagons running!

The GOG filmed the layout early Sunday - when by good fortune we had those most familiar with the operation in charge, and Heyside behaved really well!

We were loaded and away in 2 3/4 hours and had a good drive back. Unloaded this morning, and the layout is back in its home - just plonked on its legs, not levelled or powered up. We shut the door on the layout to have a month off to recharge the batteries, so there will be no further updates for a while, and I have a chance to get back to my workbench.

Cheers

Thanks Frank

The left hand side of the layout lives against a wall. The only time I can photograph it is when it goes out to a show; so the following is a photographic survey to show what it looks like from that side. It does create problems in the modelling as we are having to do most of it from the inside of the layout. We had a frantic week last week once the layout was broken up working from the outside to bring it up to scratch, bur inevitably, there is a lot me we want to do.

First a couple of the (pretty much) completed factory with water collectors and down pipes.

Terraced houses and boarded up Nissen hut. The Nissen hut will now be reworked to become a thriving motorbike repair shop.

Hi Richard,

Great to hear the show was such a success , and I was hoping you might have taken some shots of Heyside in all her glory.

The last picture above does it for me , every little detail that is now being added has given that extra dimension that brings it all to life in my opinion, top layout ;).

Regards,

Martyn.

Richard,

It was great to meet you, and to see the layout: it is a remarkable achievement. What impressed me most was the consistency of finish, and the little things, some of which can be easily overlooked as they are not overdone.

No chocolate boxes, no overly bright sunlight, no gloss finished coaching stock standing out like a sore thumb. Just the grit, grime and reality of a railway working for a living.

Nice one.

Hi Richard,

I just cannot get over the detail of your layout. It is absolutely AMAZING:bowdown::bowdown: So life like  that if ever one of those terraced houses comes up for sale i want to buy it . I can imagine stepping out of the the front door of one of those and walking up the steps onto the footbridge to do a little bit of "spotting".:D

Im in absolute awe of this level of modelling.

A very big congratulations must go to you and your team. Keep those pics coming:thumbs:

Rob :)
