Thank you.

Back on the outer chassis..... Last night saw me attaching the spring safety straps.

I've never seen these provided as separate items before; normally they are cast on as a band. They ae a bit of a fiddle, but nothing like as difficult as I thought once I had worked out where the bends were to be made.

I shall have to be careful not to catch them though.

I've obviously become a bit out of touch - I must build me some more current LMS locos:) I've probably been fiddling around too much with salvage cases/Ebay purchases or older Chowbent kits in recent years.

David, I notice your tender is the Stanier 3500 gal version, I've always wanted one those to confuse people...and ring the changes a bit.

Yes, it's a stubby little chap, two foot shorter in the middle. Surprisingly, it doesn't shout at you (well, it doesn't to me) when you see the 3500 gallon tender on its own but, put it next to a standard 4000 gallon and it's becomes quite clear, as you may see here:

Below: Stanier 13’ wheel base 7 tons 3500 gallon tender (for Jubilee No. 5663 Jervis)

Hi Richard, sorry for interupting your thread. Can you tell me how to get intouch with Peter Roles for castings (website) phone number?

Fresh out of superlatives... please slow down whilst I pop out to Sainsbury / Tesco / Morrison / Asda / Lidl.... other supermarkets are available.

Given that you have commented that one or two "examples" are required for shows, how will you finish this model - clear cellulose laquer maybe?

Thank you Graham,

I always thought that the DJH trade stand 7mm models that were laquered looked stunning. However, the Duchess is my own model, so my intention is that it be finished, unpainted, and available for general inspection at Telford so we have something to show, but that I shall have it painted shortly thereafter to run on Heyside. It will be available for future shows as a display model, as will other Finney7 members models. Hopefully as time goes on we will have pre-production new models available. And no, no clues as to what or when:)

Cheers,

Richard

Hi,

I've been away for a few days at my parents - finally persuaded my Dad to let me have some of his collection of railway related colour slides from the late 50s onwards to see if I can digitise and process them. There's bound to be some early hydraulics as we often holidayed in Dawlish Warren when I was young. More of that anon.....

In the meantime, I've been doing some detailing on the tender front, namely scratch building the scoop operating crank and screw lead.

This is what is provided in the kit:

This is what the real thing looks like - bottom right:

ans this is my replacement:

Having just looked at the photos, I think my rendition would benefit from some half-round wire over the front of the block. I'll do that later.
