An element of Arun Quay I really like is the metal fencing. Very often it's done using a coarse plastic or white metal product or a very 2d etch. Gordon produced his own etched fencing and it assembles into a very fine 3d model.

I remember our chat with Gordon at the Stafford show and would be a fine addition if you can get hold of some Chris, probably not cheap but worth every penny.

It is truly a lovely layout. I have seen it a couple of times and it is simply stunning. If only I could model to that standard, I would be a happy Sheep.

Gordon is of course a true gentleman to boot and always seems happy to explain things.

I haven't got far with your thread Chris, but I'm thoroughly enjoying following your work! The painting on the buffer stops is just wonderful.

Kind regards,

Nick.

Nice job on the buffer stops, Chris.

They do look very fine and a very different animal to the tweaked PECO examples I use on my 4mm layouts.

I have thought about using Lanarkshire products but until I use PECO Bullhead track I will hold off for now.

The Ragstone bufferstop kits are nice little projects to build. There's quite a selection to choose from (20 in all), all based on prototype designs, and they add a bit of character to the layout.

Cheers Nick, I'm not sure I'd recommend reading the whole thread - it's got quite lengthy now! On the plus side there's quite a lot of making stuff in the pages.

My modelling periods can be quite sporadic and patchy, so the thread is primarily to remind me of how I've done stuff when I come back to finish off projects. It's a real bonus for me that others enjoy and contribute to the thread.

Gordon and Maggie are a great couple who are not only really talented but also genuinely nice folk. Next time I see Gordon I'll ask if I can obtain some fence etches - they really are the dogs whatsits.

I have looked at the Ragstone kits whilst conducting a spot of research into 7mm.

A buffer stop can really become a nice focal point. Mr Gravatt demonstrates this in his book on things that grow and he documents a nice little scene therein.

I did think about a little diorama along similar lines..............oh dear...

Great thread to read Chris as you may remember I’m a massive fan! I popped to look and photo what’s left of Bodmin North Last summer in the heat wave.
I was following fine over on RM when I discovered you over here, then you shut that thread down and I thought I subscribed here. I looked in a few days ago and saw another 30 pages I was unaware of, last I knew you were taking time out to do decorating!
Smashing modelling and I’ve enjoyed reading all 69 pages, some were for a second time but you can learn a lot in those pages.
Looking forward to the grain store completion, but as is is full of atmosphere and coming together beautifully.
Glad you’re keeping a record for yourself so we can look in.
Cheers
Ade

Most excellent concrete! Could you share the colours/technique you used because as Mr Sheep says, it's really difficult to do convincingly.

Cheers chaps. Method used was...

Halfords grey primer. Then immediately alternate light wafts of cream and grey from a distance (makes it lumpy). When dry I went over with a few thin washes of Vallejo acrylic - browny, blacky, tany, greeny, etc and used kitchen roll to dab and spread the colour.
