Tom,

Thank you, I'll have a chat with Peter next time I see him at an exhibition. Depends how his kits are manufactured, but maybe he might be able to sell me just a single buffet coach.

I'm more than happy to do the conversion work. (In fact I tend to prefer that approach rather than starting with the correct kit).

Colin

Assuming I get to Bristol tomorrow without any issues, and Peter is there I'll put a feeler out and see what he says. I could be quite tempted by one too...

... No must not get distracted!

Cheers

:)) It's all too easy... I just lost about 3 hours looking at pictures of inspection saloons on the net!

And once you've parted with your hard-earned for a kit, there's no looking back!

a further email from Shawn last night to confirm that delivery is aimed at Kettering - subject to his etching supplier coming up with the goods. Price will be £135ish + an internal fittings pack, price tba.

Did anybody take any pictures of the 'work in progress' vehicle at Bristol on Sunday?

cheers

I have at last obtained a Bachmann 121 - never been run and is still in the brass it is to be ADB975659 - ex W55035, the first 121 Bubblecar to go into Departmental service.

Co-incidently, the above picture also has the Inspection Saloon that the Western Region converted from a Diag H33 Restaurant coach to KDW150266 and the original is preserved on the ELR at Bury, so is not that far from me.This coach is available from JLTRT and an order has been placed for collection at Kettering.

The work on the 121 is not that involved, I think that more will be coming off than going on, certainly on the body.

Does anybody know what, if anything, happened to the seating layout when it was 'converted' I am assuming that most of the seats were removed, otherwise, why seal off the doors?

Detailing bits have been ordered from Dick Taylor at Westdale, again for collection at Kettering. It is the intention to fit either a Loksound V4 or Zimo 645 together with integrated White/Red lights.

Progress photos will appear soon as work will not commence until after a suitable running in period.

cheers

Mike

Hi Colin,

this is the Inspection Saloon that you are asking about

http://www.flickr.com/photos/59375551@N08/5706970381/

it started life as a buffet car within one of the Class 203 6 coach Hastings diesel units. It took over from the Restriction 0 coach DS70155.

If you go into Flickr and search for the coach number or Inspection Saloon, you will find many more pictures.

Hope that this helps as a starter for ten

cheers

Mike

Hi Mike:thumbs:

I will be watching this thread with interst.

My ( ex- your ) 121 has stalled at the moment until i decide on which way i go ( DCC or Radio Control ).

If i go R/C which at the moment is 60-40 in favour , i need to find out sizes of loco receiver/ battery pack/ sound card/ servo for lights etc. Not really my forte but i dont want to carry on the build until i know what i can or cant get to fit..

The test run went well last night, a bit noisy but hopefully will get quieter with running in. It is wired 'wrong way' but no problem to fix - I'll continue to run it in before fitting the decoder - I will be able to use a OO chip as even runnung at 15v and pulling three bogie parcels vans it was barely pulling 0.25 amps, so I'm well pleased with that. It is already fitted with a delrin drive and the trailing axle has wiper pick-ups fitted so just needs connecting to the motor. Although having said that, there was no sign of stalling wneh traversing points, even running on 5v.

An item that I missed off of the 'to do' list was to fit the additional window frames.

So roll on Kettering to pick all of the bits and pieces up and away we go.

cheers

Hi Rob,

Don't forget, space in the guards compartment is very limited already as the motor sticks up in there. If I ever get around to doing a Sandite/route learner conversion, from whatever 'ready built source' it will need a total underfloor motor arrangement - ABC traction motors in a direct replacement bogie comes to mind, but I'll also check the Westdale method to see if that comes above floor level - this is all due to the Guards area being converted to seating.

Hi Martin,

basically, as there are a lot of whitemetal castings as well s the solebar to go under the MDF, I decided to screw a brass plate on, having cut an aperture for the motor to fit through and I then soldered everything to the plate before finially screwing it in place.

The brass plate in the above picture was then screwed on to act as a pivot plate for the bogie.
