Complete aside from a driver and weathering. A slight own goal insofar as I've obstructed the very small on/off switch by fitting a brake cross shaft over the top of it.... necessitating any small tool to turn the thing on or off - but not fingers....

As an off-the-wall side project, I like it and it's very successful. I don't have an immediate use for it, but you never know.....

It's the smallest standard gauge loco I know of - half a ton lighter than Gazelle, and i think shorter, but I suspect compromised at its job by forcing the driver to a central position. As a model, it will certainly shunt a wagon, maybe two.

I am in the middle (hopefully) of a sequence of surgeries for skin cancer on the head at the moment, which is painful and draining - particularly as on Monday they had to do an unexpected extra repeat one, as the biopsy had shown it had progressed further than they thought. The temporary result is that I have wounds on both sides of my head, so I can't avoid them when sleeping. = very poor sleep and bloody pillows!

As restful therapy, I dug out my 36 year old notes on the Industrial Garratt. Dave Andrew and I planned to bring out a 7mm model of this in the second half of the '80s, as it was a loco I really fancied. I had a copy of the original GA, and made a trip up to Bressingham and took lots of photos and measurements for the first pass. I worked up a reasonable amount of information into sketches, and then Acorn announced their kit - stopping me in my tracks. I stuffed all my bits and pieces into a large envelope and shoved it into a cupboard.
Since that time, the Acorn/Mercian kit has been and gone, as has the Backwoods kit in 4mm. Both have had their issues - and I'm sure ours would have as well.
One thing has changed though, and that is computers - enabling accuracy of drawing (if the information is there) - so in between anything else going on, i thought i might translate what i've got into drawings that may or may not be used in the future.
I don't intend to build another 7mm one myself, though I would quite like an EM one. Drawing wise, the information is much the same.

Giles,

sorry to hear of your tribulations, I wish you an early and complete recovery. Will you be at Uckfield?

looking at your cylinders and boiler, I’m reflecting on the amount of effort that went into getting as far as I have. It would be so much easier to print…

still, only the valve gear to go. One day.

Thank you John!

Phil, I've not seen any mud-hole doors above the foundation ring on any of the variants only washout plugs - do you have any information on them?
