Time away has slowed the Southwark Bridge Wagons, but I'm on the last two now. LSWR engineers wagons were painted a convenient colour of Halfords red primer.

I just have the two 4 wheelers to do that come like this... and yes it's 4mm scale.

We lost our other cat recently, so that has put us back somewhat. Nutmeg was often keeping me company at the workbench. Here she is 'administering' my diary...

I am sorry for your loss. Those who don't 'understand' or 'get' cats find it hard to appreciate just what a loss they can be. When you get a cat that seeks you out and spends a lot of time with you they are just such good [and calming] company - every bit as much as any dog. The only difference is that [as all 'cat people' know] we are their servants and they are the masters!

I am fortunate to have found such a cat again after my previous one was torn apart by two out of control dogs. It is hard but you do get over it and the best cure is another cat!

Regards,

David [MMP]

We always take in rescue cats from our local Cats Protection centre. Our current one, Sophie, has been with us just over eight years now, and must be into her late teens. Her companion, Penny, was a lot older and we lost her a couple of years ago. Sophie still misses her, as do we.

Sophie's very good at making sure I get up and move about. Without her, I suspect if would be hunched over the bench for far too long every day.

When it's Sophie's turn to go, we will go back to the centre and get chosen all over again.

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

Thanks David and Heather.
David - what a dreadful thing to have happened.

I don't want to upset people with my loss, many people go through the same thing.

Lets move on, I've been trying to get decent shots of my 9Fs, and Heyside being over an hour away So with no suitable background, I've been improvising at home:-

Here we go! ( in a Clarkson voice ) . At last back to 7mm scale and a start on the tender. The etches are marked as 'Acorn Jim Harris' . I had already been forewarned of the provenance of some of this kit. As long as we know ahead what is to come, we can plan for it. Interestingly the whole of the chassis etch when laid out is not square - no it's not the camera this time! I suspect it was hand drawn and it's just the waste fret that is not square. One of Jim's techniques was to mirror the etchings, so rivets for the tender sides had to be carefully counted (!) as they are not the same on drivers and fireman's sides...

Hi Tony,

Glad to see you are back on 7mm, and I'm really interested to see what you do with this.

I've booked it into the roster for Telford:)

Cheers,

Richard

Oh goodie, mines still in it's box under the bench bumped down the interest scale at the moment, almost into the selling pile (it was an impulse purchase), though the Britannia isn't, but probably will be if MoK ever get round to doing theirs.

So, looking forward to seeing what I'm potentially missing ;) don't be shy to show warts n all please

Is it the same kit as my ACME model products one. It's a piece of junk if it is, as even on the tender the fit of the etches is extremely poor.
I gave up after that, it is in a box in the loft somewhere. The castings were not much better.

Richard,

Don't think any of Seven models are ex ACME, though I've heard the tenders were Harris and virtually unchanged, the locos are supposedly all new, whilst they are not MoK they can, with care, be made up quite nicely.

Mind, finished models seem to be very thin on the ground, either folks are avoiding BR Standards or there's gremlins in the kits that put people off.

Someone has asked me to make them one of these so I will be watching carefully. Jim was a lovely man to chat to at exhibitions but.....spine/shiver etc.

I think a lot of the kit is designed by David Ennis, so some of that is new design, the tender is of course Acorn and we have to allow for a design that is, what, 20 years old? Anyway it is generating a lot of interest, which is good.

Andy - you have an order by E-mail from me already!

As you can see with the preceding photo, I took off that little edge at each end of the lower edge curve. I thought that would interfere with the bending. The top edge was made by using folding bars, one of which has a rounded edge. Starting at the top, it was formed a millimetre and a half at a time by gradually feeding it through the bars, and it was quite springy.

I didn't use the etched ends as a guide as I didn't think they were quite right, almost having a 'shoulder', the whole of the top curve is more rounded, comparison below. The divisions were then filed to suit.... Is it me, I never trust anything in a kit to be right!

Absolutely not, never trust a kit to be right, sadly there are too many out there that are wrong.

I'm glad the loco is new though, you really wouldn't want an ACME one, I can't imagine what I was thinking when I bought it.

I wonder if the ACME one is actually ACME Richard - they did take over designs from other people - like the Ivatt 4, which was originally College Models.

I met Jim a few times at shows and he was always very helpful - he does have a reputation though!

Good progress yesterday, although I replaced the 'roof' over the tool cupboards, as it was too short, the front of the tender bulkhead was too high, so that was reduced to match the roof. I made my own latches for the coal space door. I made collars for the cast handles out of tube, otherwise they just floated loosely in the holes...
Strangely the coal space slope is not the same width as the bulkheads, so it is attached to the far side in the view. The hopper slopes are separate etching that I trimmed to fit.

In the pic, the left side still has to be attached.
