Thoughts are turning to making the layout DCC and utilising my cobalt levers.

So we had a very good panel already, but it was a bit old fashioned and so I'm going to make a mimic panel replacement.

New panel sans leds at this point.

I made top so that it could be removed easily to access the internals as I will need to.

I made a little box to hold the NCE facia and i'll wire this to the panel and the levers.

Once this is all wired up, the MDF track plan will be replaced with acrylic that I'll laser and back fill with paint. More on that soon.

Thanks for the feedback Dave. Thinking about it, you're right so I'll drop the model railways going forward. It also saves a bit of engraving time too.

I've had requests to combine the lever frame and panels in to a unit and so I've done a high and low version and lever frames to accommodate 6/12/18 levers. I've picked up a job to make a huge 45 lever frame too.

Plastic is ordered for the reverse engraving. Hopefully I'll have that done in time for Doncaster show.

Been busy sorting the standard parts for drawing up panels and making them into Qcad Blocks.

Made a mimic panel today. This is laser engraved in reverse on the back of the plastic. The plastic has three layers, and we want to engrave the rear black and middle white layers.

Acrylic paint was then used to fill the engraved areas with paint.

This leaves on the front viewing side a crisp and sharp looking panel.

Massive week this week with getting post Doncaster orders out and still doing the day job.

To try and speed things up and improve the quality of our kits, we’ve decided to 3D print some parts that had previously been laser cut. Chimney stacks is one of those smart parts. I think it works well in 4mm.

3D printed chimney stacks as they come off the printer.

Finished and painted. We’ll be using this on the packaging. F5FE368A-4541-4E5D-A9E0-C3D54A104189.jpeg

Should be able to do this in TT scale too !

Next little kit will be a chocolate shop I think.

Just trying out ideas here with the engraved glass. Again this 4mm. Those letters are .5mm.

Not wanting to give up on a good idea, several types of chimney stack have been produced for all the 4mm kits.

Brilliant as always. Chimney always were a pain.

But the biggy is signalbox steps. A decent length that could be sawn to length. Laser cut steps are always a pain in the butt especially in 4mm. :D

Yes, I’ll print one tomorrow to see how it works out for my Cambrian signal box.

Chimneys look excellent, you should make them available separately.

Phil,

I think I’d include the landing in the print. It’s easy to disguise the join with the doorstep, and it’ll be easier to do the handrail.

It’s not fitted so the join wouldn’t be visible in normal circumstances. It was a rough and ready job. I think I’ll sort it. The mix of 3D printing and laser cut parts seems to work well.
