Been all over the place and have all sorts of half plans and ideas on the workbench today.

Going to try something different and attempt to engrave the weigh bridge below for Love Lane.

Too late to do anything tonight so will have a go tomorrow. I think it's going to be smokey!

I seem to recall thinking every time I see a lasered weighbridge plate, that the wrong areas have been lasered - creating recessed knobbly bits! If you can rectify this fundamental error that plate will look superb

Raised parts typically 1/2" high.

That's my plan!

Phil,

You'd need to define a hatch line that filled the areas you wanted to remove with a pitch the width of the laser's cutting bead I guess...

Steph, I've hatched off the areas but the software for the laser does not recognise the hatched areas. I'm getting an error message I've not solved yet!

Does it need to be a solid fill? Sorry only guessing as I presume you have some software to convert the CAD image to the driver code for the laser cutter.

I don't know what software you use but can you not use different colours to define the speed, power, order of cut and weather or not it's a cut or engrave? I have to say I've been unimpressed with the engraving and if it was me I'd definitely etch the weigh bridge.

Jim, you're probably right about having the weighbridge etched.

I'm still trying to workout how to import hatched areas in to my laser software, but as you say, once I have its a simple matter of setup be each layer.

I've been asked to cut out some letters for a western nameplate and I now have full size drawings for most of the alphabet (could I have a P please Bob) thanks to Rob (Lancer).

I couldn't wait though to have a go at my favourite nameplate which is a traditional BR font.

It's not quite the right proportions at each end of the frame but I'll correct that when I do the next one. This will look good full size above my desk in the office. :)
