Images - images - images is a byword on WT. I'm a buyer and could be in the market for a brick bridge for over a railway line, but I simply don't know what is available.

View attachment 145486 Super plates just arrived from Phil,
They finish off the coaling stage perfectly

Thanks Steve.

These are really satisfying to make.

Get a photo, ideally with something to be able to size it. The bricks here are perfect.

I’ve got various laminated plastic. The laser is burning away a layer of the plastic to expose the layer underneath. So they really do looked like cast signs. I’ve got white/black, black/white, white/red, silver/black, brass/black and a few other combinations.

Just been working on a tradition GWR Goods Shed in 4mm scale. I'm trying out a few new ideas on this one to get as close to the prototype as possible. I'll be cutting this out and building up one the next week or two. Hopefully there won't be too much to redo along the way.

I've also attached full size drawings in the pdf if anyone wants to print out and check its right for me? :)

Recently I had a little project that involved laser cutting some MGNR dagger boards in 4mm.

It was a fairy straight forward task to trace in QCAD a picture of the dagger boards.

When designing for laser cutting it is not as well know that the laser has a cutting width or kerf. On the larger scale models and general laser cutting this isn't really an issue. On this smaller scale project this was going to impact the detail of the design. I was using 0.8mm ply for these and I know the kerf of the laser is 0.2mm.

So with my tracing, I had to offset the laser path by half the width of the kerf to get the cut part as I wanted.

So from tracing, to final laser design... Quite a difference, but one that really increases the accuracy and appearance of the finished product.

*Note. The Cyan line is where the laser will scribe and not cut all the way through.

edit* I forgot to put up a picture of the cut item.

So just a little insight to my world :)

Very good. I had to make the same adjustments for kerf when working on the 1/32nd Western - small amounts but very important nonetheless. Nice job!

I had a little trip out today to survey some unusual buildings in a beautiful part of the country.

End of the line but not for much longer as a quarter mile extension is soon to be laid.

The unusual style of the station signage is alleged was going cheap. It certainly is extraordinary extravagant for this little railway.

Lasered up a model version as soon as I got back.

The stylised lettering was produced from cast iron by Walter Macfarlane at their Saracen Foundry in Glasgow.
The variety of their output of architectural cast iron components was as extraordinary as it was prolific.
I was lucky enough a few years back to obtain a reprinted copy of a monumental 2-volume catalogue dating from around 1885 - a real eye-opener into a past age when cast iron was king.

The lettering was available in heights of 2, 2 1/2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 16, 20 and 24"!
I have not yet been able to identify the font used.

There is another example right under your nose Phil - just up from the Nutshell pub, high up on the facade of the former Post Office, which is currently undergoing redevelopment.
I passed it today and was fortunate to secure a visit - with appropriate PPE - to the 2nd level of scaffolding to photograph each letter:

Just built up a signal box over the last couple of days. I had an order to provide a kit to represent Goonbarrow Junction, and I built up a kit to check fit after some amendments and get one for a demo for Reading Show though it looks like thats cancelled. :(

Anyway, a few pictures to show how the box fits together as its really easy to build up and paint.

A couple of accidental filters but really show of the details.
