7mm The Derby Line - Rolling Stock

Dan- I'm sure I saw you at Reading - never saw you again to talk to though!

Funnily enough, I saw dikitriki from a couple of aisles away, but he just vanished into thin air too! Shame we didin't bump into each other, though I did slope off around two o'clock as Rachel & Verity had gone Christmas shopping in the Oracle and we wanted to buy our Christmas tree in Hungerford on the way home!

Don't know if you're going to Bristol in January, but I'll look out for you both there. :)

Take your time doing the walkway and get the serrations the right way up :)
Have you got any transfers yet? I think I have enough to do a couple of Esso tanks left on a sheet

They are looking really good, I just hope mine is as good when I get back on to it. Have you done any springing on the axles or is it solid, I had been trying piano wire but have given up, there's just not enough room to get it to work and hide it.

Thanks Cynric - no I havn't got transfers yet, I was going to wait until the spring 'till they are painted - if you are offering the transfers thats very kind and they would be gratefully accepted. If you want to swap for container or Grampus CCT transfers - I have some.
I'm following Simon Varnams tank build on Building 7mm on line - his work is somewhat neater than mine, and its very well documented on there.
The axle boxes are floating ( loose! ) at the moment So I might leave it like that Alan. I think maybe I should have thinned the brake levers down a little more, but they are on now..

You can just make out them out here

I could only do one of the walkways in an evening as the concentration was so intense :))
For both the ladders and walkways I used overlength brass wire and trimmed to length with a cutting disk

I found it a very satisfying kit to build, the only etched kit I have made where the parts snap together.

Erm No :) I believe they were a small batch to test the concept. There appear to be sets imminent for other wagons http://www.djparkins.com/acatalog/Wagons___Vehicles.html Im sure DJP can give the low down on the availability of the forthcoming parts
At the Wigan Show Hobby Holidays had a set of phosphor bronze etchings for working leaf springs, looked interesting but seemed to be a thinner etching than DJP's consequently the finished product looked a little weedy.

Yes - to clear this up - the Dogfish, Catfish and Tank Wagons are NOT available with the individual leaf springs - they MAY be at some point at the more distant future but if they were to be, the cost will be higher and these will NOT be back-datable.

The individual Leaf Spring & W Iron sets for other wagons - LMS/RCH 5 Leaf, BR 5 Leaf & BR 6 Leaf [Mineral Wagons] are on our web site and are available now + a new Wagon Coupling & Vac. Pipe Set + the new Detail Set for Slaters PO Wagon Undeframes, to go with out Interior Detail Packs.

Also we have the last few of our BR Wagons Fitting Packs for only £3.84 each incl. VAT

Also the LMS/BR Glass Trucks are out again - now in both FS & S7 Versions. Other listed wagons to follow in 1st qtr. of 2012.

Hope that clarifies the situation.

Happy Christmas to All,

A tidy job Cynric - I'll be lucky if I can get mine as good as that. The walkways are definately a challenge, but acheivable with care, you were right, one an evening is probably about right!

Thanks for all the postings everyone and lets hope Santa has a sackful of MMP tanks to deliver this year!

Merry Xmas

At last they are pretty well finished - just a few minor details to add and some tidying up to do. They are probably not as neat as others efforts, but they will be part of a train rather than showcase models. I enjoyed the build - great kits, but realise how much more there is for me to learn!
Now one question - should there be a steam heating fitting on one of the domed ends?

Anyway -
Happy New Year everyone!

Now one question - should there be a steam heating fitting on one of the domed ends?
Not necessarily - it depends what product they were designed to carry. If it was a lighter class B product, such as gas oil, or light lubricating oil, then heating coils wouldn't be required. Wagons for heavier fuel oils would need the steam coils for discharging and the heaviest bitumen needs the full-on flame tubes for discharge.

The back cover of Tourret shows the prototype 3300 Esso class B with it fitted. In Didcot Newbury and Southampton lines by Robertson there is a shot of the Eastleigh crane re-railing 3420 after an accident and that is fitted as well. Im guessing you are going for early 60's so I would add it, later on in its life they may well have been removed
